2 lbs minced meat
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 small cooking onion or onion powder
2 cloves minced garlic or garlic powder
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp crushed chili peppers
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 squirt of ketchup
2 680 ml cans pasta sauce (your choice)
1 680 ml can tomato sauce
1 can crushed or diced tomatos
1 30 ml can tomato paste
Heat oil in the bottom of a large cooking pot.
Add minced meat and season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned.
Turn heat down and add all cans of tomato sauces.
Add seasonings as indicated to your taste (i.e. more cayenne, chili etc. if you prefer spicier. Spices can always be added after simmering for a while to allow flavours to enhance.
Add tomato poaste and simmer on low heat for approximately 1 hour. Taste to adjust seasonings.
Serve over cooked pasta. Freeze the remainder of the sauce in containers for easy reheating.
Add as well or use alone, ground pork, turkey or chicken, sausage (flavour of choice). Add kidney beans if desired.
